Solaris is now a hiring requirement for lighters
Two years ago, Solaris experience was a bonus on lighting briefs. This year it appears in most of the lighting roles we're asked to fill, alongside a working knowledge of USD layering.
Studios aren't only asking whether you can light in Solaris. They want lighters who understand how a stage is composed, where overrides live and how to debug a broken reference without waiting for pipeline.
If you're coming from Maya or Katana, a small personal project lit entirely in Solaris and rendered in Karma is the fastest way to show you've made the move.
